Watercoloring

I recently bought a new watercolor set at Michael's, not sure of the brand name. I decided to purchase it because it had 36 colors and my Crayola Water color set had only 24 colors. Well I have discovered that not all watercolors are equal. My crayola water color set leave a slick and shiney finish, whereas my new set leaves a dull and chalkey finish. I like all the color choices in my new watercolor set, but not sure that I like the finish look.

Hi Patty!!! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog!
The pencils you were asking about are called Prismacolor Pencils, I have the Premier, they do have a line of Watercolor pencils but I have not tried them.
I use Gamsol (odorless mineral spirits or OMS) and blending stumps to move the color around. I know a lot of ladies use baby oil and Ranger stubs and love it. The Gamsol has a bit of an odor which is why they like the baby oil. I have purched Gamsol through Inky Antics in the past, they sell it in a bottle that has a sponge like at the top and you don't get the odor. Are you a member of Splitcoast Stampers? If you are, there is a great tutorial, if not I also have a tutorial that a lady did on You Tube I could forward to you as well. Her work is out of this world!!
Let me know if you have any other questions! I love this technique, it is my very favorite way to color!!

I too bought that watercolor set from Michael's and was not very pleased with the finish either. I love the vibrant colors of the Crayola set you that you have much better. We were without electricity for several hours on Saturday, so I sat down out in the light on the porch and colored some images you sent me. Dalton had a friend over, so I had them color some images too. They signed them and wrote their ages on them. They enjoyed doing them and I think it will be a special touch for the soldiers. I'll get to putting them on cards for you real soon.
